Jewelry Trends We Love – Animal Inspiration!
Nov 5, 2009
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of diving into a box of old costume jewelry, you probably noticed an animal or two in there! I fondly remember the first time my Grandmother let me crack the lid open on her fabric-covered jewelry box, unleashing a dazzling array of sparkles that made my young eyes light up with excitement. There were brooches and necklaces and cocktail rings galore, none of which even slightly resembled anything I’d call ‘delicate’ or ‘demure’. This was jewelry. Big, bold, fiercely fabulous jewelry. And once I saw it, I knew it was the kind of jewelry for me.
Once my heartbeat slowed to a normal pace, I began to separate the jewelry into categories that made sense to my 7-year-old mind. Sure, I could have put all the bracelets in one pile, and the necklaces in another, but there were much more interesting sub-categories to work with, such as ‘bright orange’ and ‘animals’. It was the animal-shaped jewelry that interested me most. There was a gold poodle ‘wearing’ a jewelled collar brooch, a sparkling snake wrap bracelet, tiny crab-shaped earrings from the shore. To this day, I treasure these pieces dearly, and I couldn’t have been more excited than when we discovered some stunning new pieces for our store that are a modern-day version of my animal heirlooms. Find a few favorites below…
Wondering what all the ‘buzz’ is about? Our Bumble Bee Pin, of course! A silver, gold and black finish ensures this will look fantastic with everything, making it a delightful addition to your favorite winter coat or blazer. Nobody can resist a smile when this chubby little bee is shining back at them, and our amazing price makes for a ‘honey’ of a deal.
Looking for ssssomething a little more sssserpentine? Our Crystal Snake Pin is a popular pick, with a silvertone finish and genuine black and clear Austrian crystals. Easily dressed up or down, this unique accessory is less than $15, making for a very pocket-friendly splurge.
I’m probably not supposed to play favorites, but I can’t help it. Forced to choose just one piece of animal jewelry, I’m walking away with our Dolphin Ring. I love a bold ring with lots of character, and I love it even more if it’s sterling silver and covered in tons of CZs! This playful ring fits the bill perfectly, with a look that’s both laid-back and lovely. If you’re in the market for a signature piece, this may be the one for you too. You’ll gladly let your other rings sit out for awhile on porpoise! Er, purpose.
